Eliminating Fast Food to Find Your Fine

Burger Fridays with co-workers at the nearby pub. Fried chicken combo for lunch – oh wow, that’s chips and wings for only a couple of dollars. A double-glazed donut to wind off on a stressful day, even better when washed down with a milkshake. Pizza and garlic bread for dinner every Sunday – it’s only once a week, after all. Not a big deal, right? Wrong! While enjoying your favorite fast food occasionally in moderation won’t hurt, many of us tend to forget that this ideally means, like, once a month, not once a day or an hour…

Here’s the deal: regular trips to fast food venues take a huge toll on our health. The problem, though, is far more complicated than “greasy food makes you fat” – in fact, if you really want to prove the opposite, you can drop quite a few pounds munching solely on fries and cheeseburgers. Weight loss as such, unless you have some underlying health issues, revolves around the ‘calories in – calories out’ equation. Consume less energy than you use - and you will inevitably lose weight. Therefore, those weird stories about enthusiasts who dropped ten sizes by only eating submarine sandwiches can be true.

We don’t recommend going on this adventure, though. Your body is a complex machine, requiring good quality fuel to fulfill various needs, from eye twitching to smooth brain functioning. It would not make much sense to put the lowest quality fuel in your beloved Ferrari, would it? The same applies to your body! While you may get enough energy from low quality foods to survive (easy done, considering a large serving of fries contains over 30% of calories you need in a day), getting appropriate amounts of nutrients is a whole different story. Fast foods, although very energy dense, will not get you much – if any – fiber (a major digestion and gut health aid), vitamins, minerals or ‘good’ fats such as Omega-3 (inflammation busters and friends of your hair and skin). Instead, you are much more likely to get a load of trans- and other ‘bad’ fats – high cholesterol and heart disease, anyone? And simple sugars – did anyone say ‘diabetes’? All seasoned with enormous amounts of salt, excessive amounts of which are associated with high blood pressure. Not even mentioning endless hard-to-pronounce chemicals and additives, many of which are linked to allergies, irritable bowel issues, and – ugh! – certain types of cancers. Considering all that, you won’t be very surprised by the findings of a recent American study: regular fast food consumption may decrease your life expectancy by as much as 10 years!

And please, don’t use the dreaded “can’t afford to eat healthy” excuse! It’s exactly the opposite: the study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture revealed that by portion size, the most affordable food is grains, followed by dairy. Further on the list we see vegetables, fruit and protein-rich foods, such as meat and eggs. Where are the value cheeseburger meals, you’re asking? At the very bottom of the list, of course.

In all honesty, convenience and laziness are the only real forces driving us to the nearest fast food venue. And sometimes, it’s OK. But if you want to live life to its fullest and be the happiest, healthiest you possible, try to fill your shopping trolley with fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, lean proteins, low fat dairy, and the Find Your Fine 24 Hour Fat Burner Pack.
